Gwaenysgor is a conservation village in Flintshire set within the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It has an excellent pub and views of the Irish Sea, Snowdonia, The Clwydian hills, the Great Orme and Anglesey..
Local attractions include:
• St Mary Magdalene Church, Gwaenysgor; the original church was built in 1086 and was probably a wooden structure. The present church is Norman and was built in the 13th Century. There is a service every Sunday at 10 am where you will be made welcome.

• Prestatyn (2 miles); Prestatyn with it's excellent shops and eating places is a coastal resort with three beaches that join up to form a five mile stretch of sand, interspersed with rock groynes. The beach is wide and north-facing, popular with sailors , fishermen and windsurfers, and is backed by a wide promenade much-used by cyclists. Facilities including a leisure centre. The North Wales Cycle Trail and Offa's Dyke Path both converge on the seafront

• Conwy : picturesque fishing harbour and castle on the coast at the north of the Snowdonia National Park (24 miles, 35 minutes)
• Llandudno: a popular Victorian seaside resort with pier overlooked by the Great Orme. Voted one of the top ten UK destinations by Trip Advisor (25 miles , 40 minutes)
• Anglesey; fantastic coast and beaches and coastal path linked to the mainland by the Menai Bridge (Thomas Telford). Beaumaris with its castle (Edward 1) is well worth a visit as is Plas Newydd (National Trust)( 40 miles, 55 minutes to Menai Bridge)
• Chester; one of the best preserved walled cities in Britain ; a popular shopping destination (26 miles, 35 minutes to Park and Ride) Direct train from Prestatyn Station if you would prefer not to drive. Famous zoo.
• Liverpool; only about an hour’s drive or by rail from Prestatyn to Liverpool (or park and get off the train in Birkenhead and take the ferry across the Mersey) The Beatles Story , The Cavern Club, The Maritime Museum, Albert Dock, The Walker Art Gallery and its two cathedrals are just some of the attractions.
• Bodnant Gardens, Tal-y-Cafn Conwy LL28 5RE; world famous garden overlooking Snowdonian mountains; grand terraces, valley of giant conifers and cascading water. Rhododendrons, magnolia and camellias and a new winter garden. (National Trust)
